Around the World in Eighty Jewels

These artefacts inspired by the boundless marvels that populate the world have been presented in a major exhibition with free admission. The exhibition took place in three stages, the first in Milan at Palazzo Visconti, the second in Rome at the Coffee House of Palazzo Colonna and the third one that is still open during these days at the Santa Maria di Colonna in Trani. This exhibition is brimming with influences and stems from a desire to break down every wall and border to fully participate, without prejudice or fear, in the splendour that still surrounds us.

Visitors have been accompanied on a fantastic journey around the world through unique, unrepeatable artefacts such as the Antarctic Necklace, featuring a rock crystal representing the icy ridges, surrounded by tiny penguins in silver and black enamel; or the delicate Japan Necklace featuring bamboo, cherry blossoms and two perfectly symmetrical pagodas.

They then arrived in Brazil, where the joyful effervescence of the Rio carnival and the Amazon rainforest give shape to a jewellery set that is an explosion of colours, with tourmalines and quartz and colourful feathers. Meanwhile, some silver monkeys play with green zircons on the beautiful necklace dedicated to Sri Lanka, set against the background of traditional Buddhist temples. And so the eye and the heart are filled with emotions between one continent and the next.

A companion volume, published by Edifir Firenze, features an introduction by Franco Cardini and a detailed photographic catalogue.

Nicolas Bouvier wrote, "When travelling, the best thing is to get lost. When you are lost, plans give way to surprises, and it is then, and only then, that the journey really begins."
