Minerals, gems, precious and semi-precious stones have always been a source of fascination and beauty for humans. That's why the Superstones jewel stones inspired designer Giovanni Raspini to create this fascinating exhibition.
Acting on the eccentric idea of replacing customary gems with minerals and stones, Giovanni Raspini succeeded in crafting splendid one-of-a-kind pieces. He chose to incorporate relatively obscure materials such as rare stones and sparkling crystals, minerals of fabulous colours, sizes and shapes, but also corals and baroque pearls. He discovered a fascinating and mysterious world, the starting point for these radically unconventional jewellery pieces in terms of style, richness and size.
When an asteroid strikes our planet, it generates a blast of extreme heat that can melt underground rocks. This is how Desert Glass was created, the marvellous stone chosen for the Tutankhamun Necklace. This extremely rare straw-coloured mineral was formed around 29 million years ago and has also been found in the grave goods of the most illustrious pharaohs.
Hailing from Russia, this wonderful Uvarovite specimen is distinguished by a brilliant green colour that projects the effect of myriad tiny, shiny green crystals. It inspired the Artist to evoke a moss-covered rock face hidden in a shady forest, and he thus conceived of the Frog Bracelet.
The Vanadinite specimen chosen for the iconic Stone Reef necklace displays a colour, shine and transparency worthy of the finest examples of this species. This is why the Giovanni Raspini team, fascinated by the colour of the stone, decided to make it one of the stars of the creative project.
